These three rocky columns ( mostly dolomite and quartz) that also nicknamed the three sisters proudly dominate the landscape at more than 700 meters high. They are reminiscent of the native Zulu huts called rondavels. They are sometimes nicknamed with the expression “Chiefs troublesomes wives”. Indeed, the flat top peak located right next to the 3 sisters represents Chief Mapjaneng. The three rondavels offer a beautiful mosaic of color between the green of the vegetation which covers them and that of orange and ocher of their rocky base. Stopping at the Rondavels is therefore seeing one of the most beautiful panoramas of South Africa . Expect to be breathless at the view of the Blyde River Canyon!

The bourne luck potholes

Another geological curiosity that Mother Nature offers us. Located at the beginning of the Blyde canyon, more precisely at the confluence between the Blyde river and Treur, these are kinds of large pools dug in the limestone rock by erosion. They owe their name to an unlucky gold digger Tom Bourke who was convinced to find gold there. This was not the case but his name has not been forgotten thanks to this wonder of nature. Many wooden bridges will offer you a magnificent view of these potholes located several ten meters below. The colors of the place are also spectacular and vary depending on the time of day and the composition of the river water.
